Insomnia, sleeping disorder, of late, is very much prevalent in young as well as old generation. According to health experts a number of causes lead to insomnia. Decrease in the level of melatonin in the brain is considered as one of the medical reasons for less sleep. But in the present scenario, the disorder can cause with other factors also. Tension, anxiety, stress, depression, deficiency in iron or magnesium, etc. are some of the other probable causes of the disorder.

Usually, it happens as soon as a person encounters problems of sleepless nights, he prefers popping pills. However, it is a temporary way of keeping the disorder at bay. A holistic approach comprises of analyzing the state of mind, altering dietary habits and maintaining healthy lifestyle can result in bringing the permanent relief. Good sleep is vital for healthy state of mind, for feeling fresh and increasing productivity at work hours. Therefore, try these below mentioned measures and get rid from insomnia within stipulated time frame.

 

Effective ways of treating Insomnia are:


  • Majority of sleep problems arises when a person’s mind does not able to relax and remain in the present moment. Hence, it is advised to practise medication for 15-20 minutes before going to bed.
  • As per the research of Ayurveda, it is the best to go for sleep by 10 pm. Reason being, the quality of sleep is best at that time and at time person can easily fall asleep. Sleeping late in the nights results in less sleep and person does not feel refresh also next morning.
  • Avoid drinking caffeine or aerated drinks just before going to bed. These drinks stimulate the brain, thus making sleep at a distant dream. Similarly, avoid watching television or doing work at laptop or desktop prior to bedtime. Rather, prefer reading newspaper or any book before the bed time.
  • Follow the golden rule “Breakfast like King, lunch like Prince and dinner like beggar”. Taking heavy meals before bedtime results in laying stress on the digestive system, thus preventing deep sleep. Therefore, make it a habit of guzzling a glass of milk at the bed time as it facilitates good and sound sleep.
  • De-stress yourself by opting for oil massage 1-2 times in a week prior having bath. Oil massage has hosts of benefits like it relaxes and rejuvenates the body senses, eliminates toxins from the body, decreases the metabolism activity, increases energy levels, increases blood circulation, lubricates joints, etc.
  • Massage with natural oils like lavender and chamomile promotes sleep and increases sleep time. Before going to bed, try to massage the shoulder and neck with rose, sandalwood or lavender oil.
  • Remain physically active by exercising regularly. Exercises aids in increasing alertness and raising body temperature. Do exercise at least 4 hours before the bed time as this result in reducing body temperature, thus facilitating good and fast sleep.
  • Listening calm and soothing music is another wonderful way of relaxing the mind. And once the mind gets relaxed, falling asleep would not remain an uphill task.

 

Natural ways of promoting good sleep are:


  • Techniques like acupuncture and acupressure also prove effective in curing insomnia.
  • Before sleeping, soak your feet in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes.
  • Classical ragas, such as Bhairavi has done wonders on insomniacs.
  • Ensure that room in which you are sleep has proper ventilation.
  • Take deep breaths as imagine that with each breath you are inhaling happiness and positive energy and exhaling worries, tension, etc.
